WhatsApp processes 3.1 lakh UPI payments

WhatsApp Payments has processed 3.1 lakh UPI payments worth Rs 13.87 crore in the first month of launch. The report was published by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on the UPI Ecosystem Statistics for the month of November. All customers with a bank account and debit card in the country can send money on WhatsApp in India.

However, GooglePay and PhonePe are maintaining the top positions in terms of the number of transactions for the month. Their transaction figures in the month were Rs 96 crore and Rs 86.84 crore respectively. However, when it comes to the value of transactions processed by Home-grown PhonePe in November, Google Pay is in a holding a better position. About 3.71 crore transactions worth about Rs 3,524.51 crore were processed on AmazonPay.

The National Payments Corporation (NPCI) has approved the development of its UP users in a graded manner starting with a maximum register base of Rs 2 crore. Following this, WhatsApp went live with the UPI offer on November 6 after the NPCI approval. The Unified Payment Interface (UPI) platform maintained its popularity as a digital payment channel in November, reaching a record high of Rs 3.9 lakh crore with 221 crore transactions. Data from the report shows that 132.46 crore peer-to-peer Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions stood at Rs 3.29 lakh crore. According to the estimate, peer-to-merchant transactions for the last month stood at Rs 61,045.73 crore earning Rs 88.55 crores. BHIM is the government’s application and last month BHIM processed 2.35 crore payments with a high transaction value of up to Rs 7,472.20 crore.

Paytm Payment Bank processed 26 crores UPI transactions worth Rs 28,986.93 crore in November. At the same time, Yes Bank applications had the highest transaction value among the other banks their transactions were about 1.89 crores with Rs 1,998.22 crore. ICICI Bank came in the second position with transactions worth Rs 2,811.39 crore through its UPI platform having payments of about 1.27 crore.
