Wildermart is a Bangalore-based healthy and sustainable grocery store. It announced a month-long campaign ‘Beyond the Cloth Bag’ for World Environment Day. This year, the theme of the UN is “Only One Earth”. Although we believe that there is no certain day to come and take a step towards saving the environment, let us take time out to contribute to counter climate change.
Climate change is an urgent matter to be solved because of the impact it makes. Every time a consumer chooses consciously, they pay for and support a business that is working for the environment.
Beyond the Cloth Bag as a campaign, it conveys to people that we don’t need to wait for huge policy changes and that we can start small with our everyday consumption. Using cloth bags and replacing plastic straws are good but we will have to do more. Wildermart is showing customers the changes possible daily.
Shweta Thakur, Founder & CEO of Wildermart said that they love that people have become conscious and are making choices toward the needs of the environment. Wildermart aims to make it easier to do that. He said that they are focused on bringing about a change through everyday consumption.
She further added that as individuals, there is so much to contribute. Make sustainable swaps – not just with bags and straws – but more. We can choose brands with zero plastic packagings. Don’t buy what you don’t need. Our food is the biggest game-changer when it involves tackling climate change. Choose organic – so that the topsoil can be protected for a longer duration.
To make these adaptions easy for everyone, Wildermart had come up with 4 pillars of consumption: Organic, Vegan, Local and Clean Labels.
On the Organic topic, conventional farming has destroyed the top layer of soil which will lead to its end in about 60 years. This issue calls up for restorative, organic, and biodynamic farming. Wildermart’s products are not packed in plastic. The dal, rice, fnc portfolio, etc for Wildermart is organic and locally sourced from local Farmer Producer Organisations.
About Vegan, it is very impactful to cut down on dairy and meat. This is the first step towards doing a service for the environment and the biggest thing that you can individually do for climate action.
About Local, the online transportation footprint is at its peak because we consume products from various parts of the world. Shifting to local consumption reduces the footprint and Wilder Mart’s sourcing policy is 70 per cent local.
About Clean Label, the manufacturing of products like preservatives, palm oil and other cheap ingredients generate chemicals. Meat and dairy are a few of the main reasons for rainforest depletion and palm oil is the second. This urges us to consume clean-label food.
‘Beyond the Cloth Bag’ encourages people to have a better world which can promise a healthy and safe environment for our future generations.
