Vickie Segar founded Village Marketing in 2013 intending to establish brands in a social media and mobile-first era. It was one of the first creative agencies to recognize the unique influence of artists, and it has worked on campaigns for some of the most well-known consumer brands in the last decade, including Equinox, Nike, Netflix, Tommy John, SoulCycle, and many others.

Village Marketing, a North American agency recognized for influencer marketing and creator economy collaborations, has been acquired by WPP.

Village Marketing will join the Wunderman Thompson network to bolster its support for the creator economy. Creators are among the most influential voices of today, thanks to the widespread use of social media. Wunderman Thompson will be able to provide its customers and brands with significantly deeper and more direct access to the creative economy as a result of this purchase.

According to Mark Read, CEO of WPP, influencers are becoming more crucial in the creation of brands. Village Marketing will bring a wealth of experience working with some of the world’s most well-known companies on how to use influencer content in conjunction with performance marketing tactics to help modern marketers achieve their goals.

Wunderman Thompson is a place for organizations looking to access the best creative minds and the strongest expertise in analytics and technology, according to Mel Edwards, Global CEO of Wunderman Thompson.

As part of the Wunderman Thompson family, Village Marketing will be able to make its entire community of creators more accessible and available to their clients, who include some of the world’s most well-known brands.

Women’s presence and visibility in the business, both in creative firms and the influencer marketing field at large, has long been a priority for Village Marketing.

Village Marketing’s acquisition as an all-women team signals a watershed moment for the influencer industry and women-led businesses nationwide.

According to Vickie Segar, founder of Village Marketing, the creator economy and influencer marketing have been misunderstood and devalued for decades. They’ve reached a tipping point where things are beginning to shift — and they’re shifting quickly.

This acquisition provides them with a tremendous chance to tap into the experience of a global leader to both accelerate their investment in the creator economy and incorporate influencer marketing into the larger marketing ecosystem.

Following the acquisition of Made Thought in December 2021, the acquisition is part of WPP’s fast growth strategy and focused M&A approach to further improve its core creative skills in marketing, communications, and design.
