The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi did not show much fanfare in the last year, but it is expected to launch Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3 this year to bring back its glory. The manufacturer is hoping on these launches as it is facing a tough time in the global markets due to the strong competition in the South Asian markets.

Hugo Barra, the head of the international operations stated that the Indian business is specifically related to one thing. The last major product that the manufacturer launched was the Mi4i in April last year. The recent launches Mi 5 and Redmi Note 3 are going to revert the lost fame.

He stated that the Mi 5 that grabbed 15.8 million registrations in the home market China so far will also be launched in India in the next month. The Redmi Note 3 was launched on Thursday for a price of Rs 9,999 on Amazon India and Mi.Com.

The company will soon replicate the domestic model of investing in the startup companies and bringing the products made by the investee firms in the country. Barra stated that they are looking at a few chances closely right now. He confirmed that there will be movements from the manufacturer in this space in the coming months.

May be, Xiaomi will close some investments in the segment of mobile software and services. In China, the investments range from $100,000 to a couple of $100 million. The global smartphone sales have become slow and Barra pointed out that 90 percent of the global sales of Xiaomi come from online. Especially, the online sales is growing in the markets such as India, China, Brazil, the U.S., and South East Asia. In India, the shipments are steadily growing. India and China are the significant parts of Xiaomi’s business. The online trend is growing 10 percent to 33 percent in 18 months. He added that soon almost half the smartphones in India will be purchased via online.
