The India based mobile handset vendor Xolo recently created headlines with the launch of its new Omega lineup of smartphones called Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5 for Rs 8,999 and Rs 9,999 respectively. It has been announced that Omega 5.0 will be made available from December 10, while the 5.5 inch variant will be available from December 20 via all the major retail outlets across 10 cities.
Notably, both the Xolo smartphones arrive with the firm’s proprietary HIVE UI that brings a slew of new features to enhance the user experience. The new UI lets customers to interact with the development team, thereby providing a differentiated user experience to the Android fans.
The HIVE UI debuted alongside the Xolo 8X-1000 smartphone and the vendor rolls out an OTA update every fortnight that will add new features, bug fixes and performance enhancements to the HIVE based devices based on the suggestions shared by users. The idea of letting users to share real time feedback, new ideas and interact with the development team via the Connect app make the HIVE UI unique and first of its kind.
When it comes to design, the Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5 smartphones arrive with curved back panels and rounded edges that make their aesthetics appealing. Also, the devices come with metallic rims at their sides. Omega 5.0 comes with free Vodafone 500 MB of data and unlimited music content for two months and Omega 5.5 comes with free 1 GB of Vodafone data and unlimited music content for two months.
Both the smartphones run on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and Xolo has assured that it will be rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop to the devices without specifying a particular time frame for the update.
In terms of specifications, the Omega 5.0 boasts of a 5 inch IPS display with HD resolutions of 1280×720 pixels and gets powered by a 1.4 GHz octa core MediaTek MT6592M processor. This chipset is coupled with Mali 450 GPU and 1 GB of RAM. There is 8 GB of internal memory with support for expandable storage using a micro SD card.
The imaging hardware of the device comprises of an 8 MP rear camera teamed up with LED Flash, EXMOR R Sensor and support for FHD 1080p video recording. A 2 MP front facing camera for video conferencing and selfies occupies the front of the device. Other goodies onboard the Omega 5.0 include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and a 2,100 mAh battery.
Detailing on the Xolo Omega 5.5, the smartphone is fitted with a 5.5 inch display HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. It resembles the Omega 5.0 in terms of storage, connectivity and raw hardware departments, but features a superior 13 MP primary camera with LED Flash, Exmor RS sensor, 5P Lens and support for FHD 1080p video recording. While the front facer is the same as in the smaller variant, the Omega 5.5 draws energy from capacious 2,600 mAh battery.
Lastly, the Xolo Omega 5.0 is priced at Rs 8,999, whereas the Omega 5.5 is priced at Rs 9,999 and they will be available from December 10 and December 20 respectively.
