Yamaha targeting to sell more scooters in India

Jan 5, 2013: Yamaha a late entrant in the scooter market is planning to sell more than two lakh units out of the total 5 lakh two wheeler it is planning to sell in 2013. Yamaha entered the Indian market with “Yamaha Ray” brand of scooters in September and since then has sold more than 35,000 units. Though Yamaha Ray is targeted at urban woman, it has found acceptance among the men as well. The two wheeler market in India has been growing at 10-11 per cent and the scooter market in India is growing at a rate of 20 per cent. The scooter market in India is completely dominated by Hero and Honda. Yamaha plans to increase the sales of scooters in future and is looking to sell 5 lakh units by 2015.
