28th December 2023, India: One of the oldest industries in India, the FMCG market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 14.9% to US$ 220 billion by the next couple of years. FMCG products are sold at every nook and corner of India, right from the neighborhood kirana stores to motorcycles to even malls and ecommerce websites.

Kirana stores have been an integral part of India’s retail landscape for decades. These small, neighborhood stores cater to the daily needs of consumers, offering a wide range of household and grocery products.  India’s largest Kirana Community, Kirana Club has released a list of popular FMCG products/ brands among the country’s kirana owners in 2023.

The list indicates the popularity of personal care products including soaps, detergents, shampoo and toothpaste among the local retailers of India, with Dettol’s original Soap being the talk of the town. Snacks and biscuits are another popular category among Indian households, which is also represented in the list with Parle G, Maggi, Britannia and Patanjali leading this segment.

Among daily grocery items, Fortune Refined Soyabean Oil and Tata Iodised Salt are the most spoken about at Indian kirana stores. Whereas, Cadbury celebrations chocolate and Parle Kismi Toffee remained the most relevant and popular in the chocolate category. It is also interesting to note that Cadbury Dairy Milk and its parent company Mondelez India celebrated its platinum milestone this year.
